Nothing was going to slow down senior running back Malik Ingram from helping the Mater Dei Prep football team advance to the semifinals of the NJSIAA Non-Public, Group 3 playoffs.

Ingram amassed 302 yards rushing and four touchdowns to power third-seeded Mater Dei to a 49-14 victory over sixth-seeded Pope John XXIII High School of Sparta on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 16, in the Non-Public, Group 3 state playoffs at Monsignor Robert T. Bulman Stadium in Middletown.

“This is my last high school season, so I want to go out with a bang,” Ingram said. “You only get one high school career and you want to make the best of it. My offensive line did a wonderful job blocking all game and has done that all season.”

Ingram now has 18 rushing touchdowns this season.

Senior wide receiver Clarence Lewis recorded a 55-yard touchdown reception off a screen pass and had two interceptions on defense to help Mater Dei advance to the semifinals.

Mater Dei improved to 7-3 on the season.

The Seraphs will play its rival, second-seeded Red Bank Catholic High School, in the state playoff semifinals on Nov. 22 at Count Basie Park in Red Bank.
