The Father Cetkowski Council of the Knights of Columbus (Howell/Jackson) is sponsoring the annual Basketball Free Throw Contest. All boys and girls ages 9-14 are invited to participate.

The competition will be held Jan. 23 at St. Veronica’s School Gym located on Route 9 in Howell. Registration begins at 12 p.m. and the competition will begin at 12:30 p.m. Winners of the competition will move onto the district competition, which will be conducted right after the council competition.

All contestants on the local level will be recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. For more information, contact Brian Curran at 908-415-4720.

 

Manalapan Parks and Recreation’s Winter Youth Track Team will meet on Thursdays (6:15-7:15 p.m.) or Saturdays (1-2 p.m.) through Feb. 27, except for Feb. 13. All sessions will be held at the Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School.

The program is open to children presently in grades 2-8 with Saturday’s sessions including grades K-1.

A fun competition will be held on the final day, Feb. 27.

The program is instructed by Gone Running LLC, which includes USA Track and Field coaches Bob Andrews, Kristin Andrews and Willie Cicoria and personal fitness trainer Alisa Hagenberg.

Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has announced the dates for its 2016 open tryouts, which will be held from March 3 and 4 at The Atlantic Club in Manasquan. Cost for the trial will be $90, and online registration is currently open.

The Atlantic Club is located at 1904 Atlantic Avenue in Manasquan.

Any players who are interested in taking part must register online by March 2, and all participants must be at least 18 years of age. All trialists will be required to sign a liability waiver, and proof of medical insurance must be provided during the registration process. Players will have the opportunity to upload a CV when they sign up online at www.SkyBlueFC.com.

There will be one training session conducted on the first day of tryouts, running from 11a.m.-2 p.m. with player check-in beginning at 10 a.m. The second day of tryouts will be by invite only after day one assessment, starting at 11 a.m.

Times are subject to change, but participants will be notified in advance if any alterations are made to the schedule. Trialists must bring both outdoor and indoor footwear with gear suitable for a turf surface, and all registrants will be provided a Sky Blue FC t-shirt.
