Aiming to fill the pantry shelves at RISE and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, East Windsor Township officials urge residents to donate food during the annual East Windsor Township-sponsored food drive in January.

The food drive kicked off on New Year’s Day and continues through Jan. 31.

Area residents and businesses can help by dropping off non-perishable food items at several locations in East Windsor Township, Mayor Janice S. Mironov said.

Some examples of non-perishable food items include pasta, pasta sauce, tomato sauce, cereal and canned vegetables and soup.

Shelf-stable milk, dried soup mix, peanut butter, oatmeal and boxed raisins or apricots also are non-perishable and may be donated for the food drive.

Mironov pointed out that food donations decline after the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, but that should not signal the need to stop donating food to area food pantries to help feed area residents in need.

“We want to remind everyone that the need for assistance to people in our area continues, and we are calling on our community’s proven spirit of generosity,” Mironov said.

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the East Windsor Township Municipal Building at 16 Lanning Boulevard on weekdays, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Additional drop-off sites include the East Windsor Township police/court building at 80 One Mile Road, where items can be left at any time of the day or night, and the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse at 69 Twin Rivers Dr.

All food donations are earmarked for the food pantry at RISE and the Green House food pantry at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church to be distributed to local families and individuals.
