The incident began when a police officer on patrol on Route 31 was advised of a possible stolen car in the area. The officer saw the car a few minutes later on Route 31 near Woosamonsa Road.

The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed, police said. The officer pursued the car for a short distance and then stopped the pursuit.

The car was eventually found on Hopkinson Court, and the two men were taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, the Pennsylvania man was charged with receiving stolen property for being in possession of the stolen car, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a high-capacity handgun magazine, police said. He was also charged with eluding.

The passenger was charged with receiving stolen property for riding in the stolen car, and with hindering apprehension for giving a false name to police during the investigation.

Both men were taken to the Mercer County Correction Center.
