A Harbourton-Rocktown Road family was left homeless after a fire damaged their home around 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.
The residents heard several smoke alarms and when they went to check on them, they discovered the second floor of the house was on fire, police said. They left the house to wait for firefighters.
Volunteer firefighters from the Union Fire Company responded and put out the fire, police said. Deputy Fire Chief Willliam Tunnicliffe had command of the operations.
The Pennington Fire Company, the Hopewell Fire Department and the West Amwell Fire Department also responded.
The house suffered fire, smoke and water damage and was deemed to be uninhabitable, police said.
Harbourton-Rocktown Road was closed for about two hours while firefighters battled the flames. There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department and the Hopewell Valley Emergency services. It does not appear to be suspicious in nature, police said.
