Feb. 23 crash in Freehold Township remains under investigation

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – As of the morning of Feb. 24, the Freehold Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) were continuing to investigate the cause of a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash that occurred at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 23.

According to Freehold Township police, the crash occurred on the Route 33 Bypass eastbound between Route 9 and Halls Mill Road when a white Nissan Versa traveling east left the road for an unknown reason and struck a large tree.

The driver, identified as a 32-year-old male from Princeton, was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with what police described as serious injuries.

The passenger, identified as a 31-year-old female from Princeton, also needed to be removed from the vehicle and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with what police described as serious injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or the immediate aftermath and has information, photos or video of the scene from either side of the Route 33 Bypass is asked to contact Police Officer Kevin Cherney at 732-462-7908, ext. 6220, or Detective William Holohan at 732-294-2110.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Freehold Township Police Department, Freehold Borough Police Department, Monmouth County SCART, New Jersey State Police, the East Freehold Fire Company, the Freehold Township Independent Fire Company, Hackensack Meridian paramedics and the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, according to a press release.
