SPOTSWOOD–The Borough Council approved a resolution awarding JNP Construction LLC of Jackson the bid to demolish the vacant boarded up house located at 474 Main St.

Mayor Edward Seely said the house on the property is condemned, abandoned and covered in vegetation. It sits next to the PNC Bank across from the Spotswood Funeral Home.

The council had previously authorized and directed the borough clerk to advertise for sealed bids for “Building Demolition, 474 Main Street.” The bids were received on July 23 and JNP Construction was the lowest and most responsible bidder, with a bid of $74,166, according to the council.

The chief financial officer of the borough has certified in writing that funds are available for this purpose, according to the council.

In terms of when the house will be demolished, Business Administrator Dawn McDonald said the permits must be secured by the contractor prior to actual demolition. The borough anticipates the process will take one to two months.

The council approved the resolution on Aug. 17 during the council meeting via video conference.

On July 13, the council approved a resolution authorizing the borough clerk and the Spotswood Volunteer Fire Department to prepare and advertise a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an architect to create a conceptual design and cost estimate for the vacant property to be turned into a firehouse.
