SPOTSWOOD–With the ballot results officially certified, Jacqueline Palmer has won 2,407 votes in the mayoral election to secure the open seat, which holds a four-year term.
She will be Spotswood’s first female mayor.
Mayor Edward Seely decided not to run for re-election.
Incumbent Councilman Lawrence Kraemer won 1,215 votes. There were 460 total write-in votes.
The total number of votes was 4,082, according to the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office, which certified the results on Nov. 20.
“To be elected by the people into any position is exciting, but being part of creating history in our small town is truly amazing and humbling. Being the first woman to have ever run and be elected as mayor of Spotswood is an honor. Spotswood has made the choice for change and we are ready to get to work,” Palmer said.
Palmer has been a borough resident for 21 years. She is a freelance project manager for two large insurance companies and is a small business owner.
Kraemer could not be reached by press time.
