Shah was charged on June 12 with murder in the death of his father, Pradipkum Shah, 53, who was shot in his home on June 10 and later pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on June 11 at 6:25 a.m.

In addition to murder, Shah was charged with hindering his apprehension by hiding the gun that was used in the shooting and charged with unlawful possession of the weapon. The gun has since been recovered.
