Mironov said, “Gun violence is a tragic reality nationwide, with more than 100 Americans killed each day. National Gun Violence Awareness Day is our opportunity to honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence and to recommit ourselves to doing all that we can to reduce the impacts of gun violence in our community and in our nation. We encourage everyone to wear orange on June 4 as a way to honor those who have felt the devastating effects of gun violence.”

The proclamation states, “Americans are 25 times more likely to die by gun homicide than people in higher-income nations. New Jersey has the 47th highest rate of gun deaths in the United States with 445 gun deaths every year and a rate of 5.0 deaths per 100,000 people. We renew our commitment to reduce gun violence and encourage responsible gun ownership to help keep all of our citizens and children safer.”
