Stop & Shop celebrated the 100th birthday of longtime bag boy and World War II veteran, Bartholomeo “Benny” Ficeto, on Aug. 23 at the Stop & Shop located at 1049 Route 1 south in Edison.

Stop & Shop representatives, along with Ficeto and his family, cut the ribbon on a dedicated veteran parking space in his honor.

He was surprised with a birthday party inside the store.

Ficeto started working at Stop & Shop nearly 12 years ago in Bloomfield. He transferred to the Edison store about four years ago and continued to work there until the pandemic hit.

Ficeto served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a gunner on a B-25 Mitchell bomber, flying mostly over northern Africa and Italy, and has held other various jobs over his lifetime.
