Car burglaries and thefts increase in Middlesex County neighborhoods

The North Brunswick Police Department is warning residents and visitors of an increase in car burglaries and stolen cars.

Recently, these types of crimes have increased significantly throughout Middlesex County and the surrounding areas, according to information provided by the police department.

Criminals are targeting cars that are left running, as well as cars with the keys left inside, according to the statement.

Police are reminding residents:

  • Do not leave any keys inside the vehicles. Criminal have devices that help them determine which cars have keys inside.
  • Do not leave vehicles running and unattended, even to warm up the car.
  • Contact police immediately if there is any suspicious or unfamiliar people looking at cars in the neighborhood or in driveways.
  • Do not keep valuables inside vehicles.
