A Cherry Brook Drive family escaped unharmed when a fire broke out in the attic of their home shortly after 3 a.m. Feb. 1, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.
Police were called to the single-family home after a caller reported an odor of smoke in the house at 3:18 a.m. When police officers arrived, they saw smoke coming from the attic.
The residents and their pets were evacuated from the house.
Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 responded to the initial alarm and asked to upgrade it to a first-alarm fire. Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 and the Rocky Hill Fire Department responded to the request for more firefighters, along with Montgomery EMS and its rescue squad.
Firefighters pulled a hose through the front door and went up into the attic, where they discovered fire above the ceiling on the second floor. The firefighters contained the fire to the attic and extinguished it, with minimal damage to the house, police said.
