In the wake of a pair of burglaries and car thefts, the Montgomery Township Police Department is urging residents to avoid leaving garage door openers accessible, to lock car doors and to not leave car keys in vehicles.
The two burglaries and thefts occurred in the Cherry Valley Country Club development off The Great Road in the early morning hours on Aug. 6 and Aug. 8, police said.
In both incidents, the victims were at home but did not have any contact with the alleged suspect(s), police said.
On Aug. 6, the suspect(s) allegedly got into the garage through an unlocked exterior garage door and then entered the house through an unlocked interior garage door around 4:50 a.m. Aug. 6, police said.
The suspect(s) allegedly stole the victim’s wallet, purse and vehicle keys, and then stole a 2022 BMW X7 sport activity vehicle that was parked in the garage, police said.
On Aug. 8, suspect(s) allegedly entered another house in the Cherry Valley Country Club development through an unlocked front door around 3:30 a.m., police said.
The suspect(s) allegedly took the victim’s purse and two sets of car keys, which they used to drive off in the victim’s 2022 Cadillac Escalade SUV and 2021 Porsche Taycan EV, police said.
To avoid becoming a victim, police advise residents to remove all valuables from their vehicles and to lock the car doors and all exterior doors into the house.
