The Princeton Public Schools Board of Education expects to resume in-person meetings in September on an alternating basis.
The first in-person meeting will be held on Sept. 27.
The school board suspended in-person meetings after Gov. Phil Murphy issued an executive order in March 2020 that banned indoor meetings and other activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The school board moved its meetings to the Zoom online platform. The executive order was lifted in May 2021, but the school board has continued to meet remotely.
School board president Dafna Kendal said the board would alternate in-person and remote meetings. The board would meet in person one month and remotely via Zoom the next month. The board is trying to accommodate everyone, she said.
“We believe that on one hand, we should be (meeting) back in person. On the other hand, we realize how accessible the meetings are (to the public) via Zoom,” Kendal said.
“We are going to try to work on a hybrid model, but in the meantime, this is the approach we will be taking,” she said.
If there is an increase in COVID-19 cases or other illnesses, the school board will reassess its decision to meet in person, Kendal said. But in the meantime, the plan is to hold the board’s Sept. 27 meeting in person, she said.
