Young Montgomery bicyclist suffers facial injuries after struck by car

A 12-year-old bicyclist suffered facial injuries after he was struck by a 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan on Route 601 near Reading Boulevard April 5, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.

The minivan, which was being driven by a 43-year-old Hillsborough Township woman, was traveling south on Route 601 when she struck the boy, who was trying to cross the road from the northbound side on his bicycle, police said. The boy, who lives in Belle Mead, had pulled out from behind a line of stopped traffic and was struck by the minivan.

The boy was not wearing a bicycle helmet and suffered facial injuries, police said. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment and released.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Montgomery Township Police Department Traffic Bureau at 908-359-3222.
