Hillsborough Township man charged in alleged sexual contact incidents near Rutgers campus

A 29-year-old Hillsborough Township man has been charged in connection with multiple incidents of sexual contact within the City of New Brunswick, near the Rutgers University College Avenue Campus, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, Director Anthony Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department, and Chief Kenneth Cop of the Rutgers University Police Department.

On Nov. 20, two female Rutgers students independently reported being inappropriately touched that evening by an unknown male. The incidents transpired in the areas of Hamilton Street and College Avenue, according to a press release through the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on Nov. 22.

Following an investigation led by Detective Sean Freeman of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, along with the assistance of the Rutgers Police Department, the unknown male was identified as Crystaljay Ecot.

On Nov. 21, Ecot was arrested without incident and charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.
