OCEAN TOWNSHIP — In an effort to curb speeding on neighborhood roads, the township may place temporary speed bumps on several streets for the more congested summer months.

Mayor Christopher Siciliano said during the Sept. 22 Workshop meeting that he would like to implement the temporary speed bumps for the busier months and will study which streets need them the most.

“There are some streets that really are a problem and Allaire [Avenue] is one,” Siciliano said. “In my estimation there are 10 areas.

“You roll them out in April or May and roll them up at the end of October.”

Township Manager Andrew Brannen said the council will work with the police department in identifying which roads will need the speed bumps. He also suggested only selecting three to five roads for first year to see how the program works.

“We have to give them some guidance on where because everybody is going to be asking for them,” he said. “How do we tell them ‘no?'”

Brannen also suggested residents take to the township parks or individual yards for children to play in.

“The complaint we get is that my kids are out there playing and cars are speeding,” he said. “The street is for cars or bikes.”

Siciliano also announced during the meeting the township will be holding a “Super Senior Luncheon” for the 35 residents identified as being over 90 years old.

The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Renaissance on Valley Road. During the luncheon residents in the “Century Club” will be awarded a special proclamation.
