Social Awareness Weekend set to reflect on MLK’s contributions

RED BANK — Pilgrim Baptist Church of Red Bank and its partners understand how important Martin Luther King Jr.’s contributions to society were. They have decided to hold a “Social Awareness Weekend” where everyone is welcome to come out and participate in many different activities.

The weekend will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, with Shabbat services at Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, there will be a “Community and Law Enforcement Conversation” at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Ave., Red Bank. The activity will invite attendees to participate in small group conversations with law enforcement, high school students and community leaders.

At 1 p.m., there will be a “Community Unity March” through the streets of downtown Red Bank, starting at the church.

On Sunday, Jan. 15, a “Law Enforcement Appreciation Worship and Prayer Service” will be offered at 11 p.m. at the church.

On Monday, Jan. 16, “The Community YMCA’s Annual Dr. King Breakfast” will begin at 8 a.m. For tickets, call 732-671-5505.

At 12 p.m. the last activity, “The Rev. Dr. King Jr. Community Celebration,” will be held at the church.

The weekend is sponsored by Pilgrim Baptist Church of Red Bank, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department, Monmouth County Police Chief Association, The Community YMCA, Monmouth Reform Temple Citizens for a Diverse and Open Society and Concerned Citizens of Red Bank.
