OCEAN TOWNSHIP — New Jersey American Water (NJAW) will be providing $3.5 million for new water mains in Ocean Township as well as Neptune Township and Asbury Park.

Some of the water mains are as old as the 1920s and will be replaced with 23,000 feet of new, ductile iron pipes.

NJAW is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, which aims to provide reliable and high-quality water to over 2.7 million people.

The company is currently working along the following streets in Ocean Township: Brower Boulevard, from Interlaken Avenue to Logan Road; Laurel Avenue, from North Wanamassa Drive to Sunset Avenue; Pinecrest Road, from Redmond Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue; Pinecrest Road, from Wells Avenue to Harnell Avenue; Harnell Avenue, from Woodcrest Road to Wells Avenue; and the entire length of Cliftwood Road, Elmwood Road, Oakhurst Road, Roosevelt Avenue, Wells Avenue, Woodcrest Road and Phoenix Parkway.

Senior Director of Operations for the Coastal Region Kevin Keane believes the construction can only benefit the township.

“This significant improvement project is part of the company’s multi-million dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life to help ensure continued reliable service.

“With the installation of the new water mains, customers should experience increased water flows for residences and fire protection, as well as continued improvement in reliability,” said Keane.

Construction is scheduled to be finished by the end of April. In the fall of 2017, the final street restoration will be complete.

NJAW values the safety of its employees and strongly advises pedestrians and drivers to be careful around these construction areas.
