SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Firefighters were able to contain a fire to a FedEx truck inside a South Brunswick warehouse last week.

The Monmouth Junction Fire Department was dispatched to FedEx at 114 Melrich Road for a fire alarm activation around 10:22 p.m. on Feb. 16, according to a statement released by the South Brunswick Police Department. While en route, an update from the alarm company reported a fire inside the building, police said.

Firefighters searched through a heavy smoke condition in the 20,000-square-foot warehouse when they located a FedEx box truck with the cab and engine compartment on fire.

“Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the single truck with no extension to the building,” said Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Scott Smith.

In addition to the Monmouth Junction Fire Department, Cranbury Fire Company, Kendall Park Fire Company, Kingston Fire Company, North Brunswick Fire Company No. 2, Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad and South Brunswick police responded to the scene.

There were no injuries and the fire is under investigation by the South Brunswick Township Fire Safety Bureau, officials said.
