Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County is accepting applications for a three-bedroom home that will be built in Freehold Borough. Applications from people who would like to live in the home will be accepted during February.
This will be the third house Habitat will build on Center Street in the borough, said Marianne Herring, family services manager, Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County.
“The house at 108 Center St. was completed last July. (The house at) 110 Center St. is under construction now. We just did the foundation. That house should be done in June. So the third house (at 112 Center St.) is the one we will be taking applications for. This was a property we purchased several years ago. There was a very old house on the site which we had to demolish. We then got approval to subdivide the property into three lots,” Herring said.
Herring said the plan is to begin construction on the new home at 112 Center St. by June, with a target completion date of October.
Bethel AME Church, Freehold Township, hosted a meeting about the project on Jan. 21.
Habitat for Humanity partners with families to build decent, affordable housing. In order to qualify, the following conditions must be met: individuals must live in northeast or western Monmouth County; the combined annual gross income for all family members must be between $30,000 and $60,000; individuals must currently be living in substandard housing; and the selected family must commit to a specific number of hours of sweat equity, with the majority of those hours spent on the construction of the home they will occupy.

Habitat for Humanity of Monmouth County recently moved its administrative offices from Matawan to 45 South St., Freehold, where it operates ReStore and sells furniture, appliances, building supplies and home goods. The proceeds further the organization’s effort to construct homes.
“Having all of our staff at the same location as the ReStore is more efficient for the operation of our entire organization,” Executive Director Ray Gabler said.
