Monmouth County’s incumbent Republican elected officials have announced they will seek re-election this year.
According to a press release, Sheriff Shaun Golden, Surrogate Rosemarie Peters, and freeholders Tom Arnone and Serena DiMaso announced they will seek the Republican nomination for the 2016 general election.
“We don’t need to make Monmouth County great again,” Golden said in the press release. “Monmouth County is already great, thanks to years of strong leadership. Republican leadership built Monmouth County into what it is and so the notion that we need to change what we have been doing is unfounded.”
Arnone, who is serving as director of the Board of Freeholders in 2016, reflected on the team’s fiscal track record, saying, “We have trimmed the budget by $5 million over the years, without impacting the quality level of service we provide residents with. We are one of the only counties in the entire nation to have an AAA credit rating, something that speaks to our responsible stewardship of the people’s tax dollars.”
According to the press release, Golden, Peters, Arnone and DiMaso will officially receive the support of the Monmouth County Republican Organization at its Feb. 18 nominating convention.
On the Democratic side of county politics, Marlboro Councilman Jeff Cantor has announced he will seek his party’s nomination to challenge Golden for the position of sheriff. Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty and Carly Immen, who is a former member of the Borough Council in Farmingdale, have announced they will seek the party’s nomination for freeholder. Vincent Solomeno of Hazlet has announced he will seek the party’s nomination to run for surrogate.
