Laura Steinmetz, director of communications for the Jersey Coast chapter of the American Red Cross, said the organization has assisted the resident.

“We responded to a request for assistance on Monday, March 14, at 18 Balmoral Court,” she said. “We assisted one displaced adult with emergency assistance … based on their individual needs.

“Temporary lodging assistance was not needed as they said they had a place to stay [and] we also provided referrals to other local human service organizations who could further assist with the recovery efforts.”

According to Police Chief John T. Powers, the multi-alarm fire was reported just before 11:30 a.m. on March 14 and was under control shortly after 1 p.m.

Powers said the fire was mainly contained to the unit at 18 Balmoral Court before spreading to the second unit.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene including Aberdeen Township Hose and Chemical No. 1, the Cliffwood Volunteer Fire Company and units from Hazlet, Union Beach, Matawan, Morgan, Morganville, Laurence Harbor, Keyport, Middletown and Monmouth County.

Powers said no injuries were reported and the blaze is currently under investigation by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office.
