ENGLISHTOWN – When residents of Englishtown receive their next sewer bill this summer, they will notice something different from the bill they received in the spring.

The difference will be a higher quarterly charge.

On April 27, the same night members of the Borough Council adopted a $2.36 million budget to fund the operation of Englishtown during 2016, they also adopted an ordinance that will raise the quarterly sewer rate.

The quarterly sewer fee will increase by $10 from $119 to $129, according to the ordinance. The rate increase is effective June 1 and will be seen on the August sewer bill, borough officials said.

Mayor Tom Reynolds said officials are passing on a rate increase that Englishtown has received from the Western Monmouth Utilities Authority for the treatment of waste water.

Council members Greg Wojyn, Lou Sarti Jr., Cindy Robilotti and Maryanne Krawiec voted to adopt the ordinance.

Councilman Eric Mann, who was appointed to the governing body that evening to fill an open seat, abstained on the vote.

Councilwoman Lori Cooke was absent from the meeting.

The $40 annual increase in the sewer fee will be in addition to an increase of about $88 in municipal taxes that the owner of a home assessed at the borough average of $299,716 is projected to pay this year. Municipal taxes on a home assessed at the borough average will total about $1,861, according to borough officials.

In addition to paying municipal taxes and the sewer fee, a property owner in Englishtown also pays Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District taxes, Freehold Regional High School District taxes and Monmouth County taxes.
