Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Ave., Metuchen, will screen a new film from Israel, Mekonen, The Journey of an African Jew, at 7 p.m. May 17.

The film is produced by the same people who made last year’s Beneath The Helmet. Mekonen was one of the soldiers featured in that film. This sequel will cover his life story from his early days in an Ethiopian village, through his family’s struggles in Israel, his military training and finally, how he is an officer in the Israel Defense Forces. His jubilant personality and personal struggles and triumphs make for a great film. The showing begins at 7 p.m. Neve Shalom Hebrew High, Youth Groups, parents and other members of the community are welcome to attend at no charge thanks to a grant from Jerusalem U. The Barry Miller Fund, a sponsor of this event, will provide refreshments, and our Israel Awareness Committee and the JCC of Middlesex County are also co-sponsors.
