RUMSON — Judge Nicole Sonnenblick was appointed as the acting municipal court judge for the Borough of Rumson through an April 12 Borough Council resolution. She is filling in for Judge Richard Thompson, whose term expires Dec. 31.
Mayor Ekdahl conducted the swearing-in ceremony while Sonnenblick’s husband, Peter Licata, held the Bible.
“Judge Sonnenblick was one of eight well-qualified applicants. She was selected because she brings a significant amount of experience, strong credentials, and she is highly efficient and personable,” said Council President Joseph Hemphill in a press release. Hemphill served on the interview committee.
Sonnenblick is currently a municipal judge in Freehold Township, Millstone Township, Sea Bright Borough and Colts Neck. She was formerly a municipal prosecutor in Marlboro Township, Manalapan Township, Freehold Township and Sea Bright Borough and worked in private practice as a criminal defense attorney. She also had a municipal and chancery practice.
Her background includes experience in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office and as a law clerk for Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Alexander D. Lehrer and Judge Patrick J. McGann. She graduated from Tulane University and Rutgers School of Law and has many scholastic achievements. She is also active in numerous professional organizations and community groups.
Rumson Municipal Court is held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles S. Callman Courtroom, adjacent to Borough Hall.
