OCEAN GROVE- History buffs and local residents will once again be able to relive history on the Ocean Grove walking tours.
Katie Schultheis, museum administrator for the Historical Society of Ocean Grove Museum, said that the walking tours will be held three times a week, beginning this month.
The tours will feature stops at the Great Auditorium and Tent City, while learning how the town was founded and grew over the years.
“They are basically history walking tours and we have a lot of seniors who come on them, too, so you are not walking all over town,” she said. “You do get access to the Great Auditorium and a little lecture in there about special visitors as well as some architectural history about it.
“People also get to see at least one tent on the tour, which that is always a favorite of everyone.”
The tours occur every Wednesday and Friday at 1 p.m. and every Saturday at 11 a.m. from June 22 to Sept. 3. Schultheis said the tours take about an hour and a half.
According to Schultheis, the walking tours have been going on for at least 15 years and many of the same customers come back every summer. She said as many as 60 people attend some of the tours.
The tour begins at the Historical Society of Ocean Grove Museum at 50 Pitman Avenue and concludes at the Centennial Cottage at the corner of Central Avenue and McClintock Street. The tour costs $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and tickets can be purchased on site.
