MARLBORO – Residents may comment on a pair of ordinances at the July 7 meeting of the Marlboro Township Council.
On June 22, council members introduced an ordinance that if adopted will amend the municipal code as it relates to hiring a certified animal control officer. The change would allow officials to hire an additional animal control officer who specializes in investigating animal cruelty cases. The public hearing on the ordinance will be held July 7.
Also on June 22, the council introduced an ordinance to accept a $125,485 Community Development Block Grant from the the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders for road improvements at the Greenbriar adult community off Robertsville Road. The public hearing on the ordinance will be held July 7.
In other business, the council approved the renewal of Marlboro’s liquor licenses. Council President Carol Mazzola, Vice President Randi Marder and Councilman Jeff Cantor voted yes. Councilmen Scott Metzger and Michael Scalea were absent.
Licenses for the period of July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017 were renewed for Marlboro Buy Rite Liquors, Samvera Restaurant, Fireside Grill and Bar, Bella Vista Country Club, Crown Palace, Brioso, Martucci’s Deli, the Morganville Independent Volunteer Fire Company, the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company, Nonna’s, Cambridge Spirits Unlimited, TGI Friday’s, Rosalita’s Roadside Cantina, Osteria, Cuzin’s Clam Bar, Wine Academy and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.
And, the council entered into a professional services agreement with Remington, Vernick and Vena Engineers of Toms River.
According to the governing body, Marlboro has received a $145,000 grant from the Monmouth County Park System to be used for improvements at Nolan Road Park. The grant agreement requires a preliminary environmental assessment to be conducted at the site, which the engineering firm will perform. The value of the contract is not expected to exceed $17,500.
Finally, the township accepted donations for the Marlboro Community Garden from James R. Ientile Inc., which provided soil; the Morganville Flower Farm, which donated plants; and Shade Tree Committee Chairman Jeffrey Weiss, who donated marigolds to be planted around the community garden’s sign. The community garden is on Tennent Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro.
