NORTH BRUNSWICK – North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) announced it has received national certification for its Project Lead The Way (PLTW) engineering program that the school has been offering since 2013.
PLTW Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset and become “doers,” according to a statement prepared by PLTW. In addition to K-12 curricular pathways, PLTW provides teachers with high-quality professional development training that gives them the support and resources they need to devote more time to inspiring students.
“We’ve seen how PLTW inspires students to think critically and problem solve,” said Andrea LaMagra, the science supervisor at NBTHS. “We are extremely proud to be PLTW certified.”
As part of the recognition process, LaMagra and a team of teachers, staff, students and members of the community submitted a self-assessment of the school’s implementation of PLTW Engineering, followed by a site visit from a PLTW-affiliated team, according to the statement. PLTW’s team met with teachers, school administrators, counselors, students and members of the school’s Partnership Team, which is an advisory council comprised of teachers, counselors, administrators, post-secondary representatives, business and industry professionals and other community members who actively support the PLTW program within a school.
“Congratulations to NBTHS and thank you for your commitment to students,” said PLTW President and CEO Vince Bertram. “We look forward to continuing to work together to prepare students to thrive in our evolving world.”
“We’ve seen how the PLTW program draws more students to engineering, math and science and gets them thinking about college and their careers,” said Pete Clark, principal of NBTHS. “We are extremely proud to be PLTW certified and ecstatic that our students are eligible for college-level recognition, which may include college credit, scholarships and admissions preference.”
