NORTH BRUNSWICK – Police are showing the public just how dangerous it is to drink and drive.

“Despite our warnings, some people still choose to get behind the wheel while under the influence. Since we are currently participating in the Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over campaign, we figured we would give you the police officer’s perspective of a suspected DUI and what could happen,” a statement on the North Brunswick Police Department’s page read, accompanied by a patrol car dash cam video of the motor vehicle stop.

On Aug. 19, a Traffic Safety Bureau officer working the “Drive Sober” detail attempted to stop a car for speeding, according to police. The vehicle was traveling more than 90 miles per hour and changing lanes abruptly.

Ashley Mundy, 32, of Metuchen, was driving erratically, per the video, and eventually crashed her car into the median on Route 1 and spun around, narrowly missing other vehicles traveling in her direction.

She was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by the North Brunswick First Aid & Rescue Squad, Inc. and treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Mundy was charged with suspected DWI and numerous other motor vehicle offenses.
