Marlboro councilman deployed overseas

MARLBORO – Township Councilman Jeff Cantor, who is a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, is serving a three-week mission in the central European nation of Slovenia.

Cantor said he is in charge of 2,000 troops from 10 nations. His mission is to teach emergency management, disaster response and counter-terror operations to the allied nations’ military forces.

The deployment comes as Cantor is in the midst of a campaign for the office of Monmouth County sheriff. He is the Democratic candidate running against incumbent Republican Sheriff Shaun Golden in the Nov. 8 election.

“When the country calls, I drop everything to fulfill our nation’s request,” Cantor said. “I am proud to do so.”
