MONTGOMERY: Contract awarded for installation of traffic-calming measures in Montfort Drive neighborhood

MONTGOMERY — Aiming to slow down motorists in the Montfort Drive neighborhood, Township Committee has awarded a $90,494 contract to Top Line Construction to install traffic-calming measures.
Township Committee awarded the bid to the Somerville-based company, which was the lowest responsible bidder for the job. The second bid — for $105,000 — was submitted by Kalogridis Contracting.
Neighborhood residents had complained about speeding in the neighborhood, off Route 206 near the Municipal Building, Township Administrator Donato Neiman said. The neighborhood is self-contained. There is one road into the development of single-family homes.
Money for the traffic-calming measures was contributed to the township by developer County Classics Homebuilders as a condition of its approval by the Planning Board, Mr. Neiman said. The developer contributed $100,000 for traffic calming.
The traffic-calming measures consist of a “neck down,” or narrowing, of the curb at Montfort Drive where it enters into the new Fox Brook at Montgomery single-family-home subdivision, said Municipal Engineer Gail Smith. A new street — Twin Brook Drive — was created into the new 22-lot subdivision.
The second traffic-calming measure is a solar-powered sign that says 25-miles-per-hour and displays the motorist’s speed. The traffic feedback sign will be placed on Montfort Drive north, as one turns left from the entry road off Route 206, Ms. Smith said. 
