HOWELL – Police are crediting members of the public with providing information that led to the arrest of an individual who has been charged with the fraudulent use of a credit card.
Howell Police Department Detective Sgt. Christian Antunez said that Wolde S. Simon, 43, of Jackson, was arrested on Sept. 21 and charged with the fraudulent use of a credit card, forgery and credit card theft in connection with his alleged involvement in an incident earlier this year.
Police said that at 7 p.m. May 5, a man was observed on video surveillance at Home Depot, Route 9, picking up a credit card that had been left at the store by another patron. The man immediately purchased $300 worth of merchandise by using the credit card at Home Depot, according to police.
In July, police released information about the incident and a photograph of the suspect and asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual who was believed to have been involved.
According to Antunez, members of the public responded.
“On July 5, I disseminated (a) press release and (photo) for the purpose of identifying the suspect involved,” Antunez said. “We would like to extend our gratitude to the many people who called the police department and provided information that led to the suspect’s identification. This would not have happened without the public’s help.”
Following his arrest, Simon was released pending a court date.
