The Holmdel Township’s School District has a mission to help its students become resourceful and responsible.
Fourth, fifth and sixth graders at Indian Hill School continue to prove this belief through their actions.
These students have decided to adopt the community organization known as BRIDGES. It is a group that aims to assist low-income residents in Keyport, Red Bank and Freehold by providing them friendship, food and clothes.
For the past few years, student leaders and Student Council Advisor Trina McCarthy have worked with the Indian Hill School Parent Liaison Group.
The student council members and McCarthy have been working with Kathy Logan of BRIDGES. At their monthly student council meetings, the students focus on what the organization needs and how they can help.
In the past, the students have run school-wide drives for coats, toys, books and food.
McCarthy is proud of her group of students and their willingness to help others.
“The students enjoy the feeling of helping others and knowing that they are making a difference,” she said. “It’s great to see these young people and their families working together throughout the year, building friendships and making a difference.”
