Time for congressman to face constituents

Kudos to Congressman Leonard Lance (R-NJ) for holding town hall meetings last week and answering his constituents’ questions and comments, both the positive and the mostly negative.

However, my congressman, Chris Smith (R-NJ), has not held a town hall meeting since 1992 and avoided one that was held at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan last week.

It is safe to say that Chris Smith will never be included in “Profiles in Courage.” The irony is that if he had come to the library, that would be the closest he would ever get to that book.

Chris Smith has voted numerous times to put our troops in harm’s way to face a true enemy of our democracy. That enemy is equipped with weapons aimed at our brave soldiers. All that the cowardly Chris Smith would be facing at a town hall meeting are citizens who he swore to represent, directing questions, not bullets, at him.

Chris Smith is long overdue to face his constituents at a town hall meeting and to stop ducking their questions and concerns.
