By Mike Morsch, Six-month-old Cassidy Herzog might not remember her first dress-up tea party. But she was one of the star attractions, all dressed up with a big pink bow in her hair., And the hats. Fancy hats are still big at tea parties., All that cuteness and pomp was on display April 29 for the 10th annual Women’s Tea Party at St. David’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Cranbury., The event drew about 50 participants and featured an afternoon social with assorted teas, pastries and finger sandwiches. The program “Sound of Music” celebrated two music groups that performed during the event., “This one is special because it brings many women together for fun, fellowship and a purpose,” said church rector, the Rev. Karin R. Mitchell., The purpose this year was to support a girls chamber orchestra called Stretto, from Trinity Lutheran Church in Trenton, which brought its sweet sounds to Cranbury for the event., According to the Rev. Mitchell, the church tea party began in 2006, spurred by a group of Caribbean women within the church community and led by Angela Levy., The event takes a few months of advance planning. There is a group of women who reserve a table every year, headed by Fran Rak of Cranbury. The food for the event was prepared by Mike and Debbie Raab of “Tea For All” in Trenton., “The women who attend love to dress up and wear hats,” said the Rev. Mitchell. “It reminds me that these opportunities are few and far between.”
