SOUTH BRUNSWICK – To continue the tradition of the Krayons for Kids fundraiser through 2017, a group of young student-athlete volunteers from South Brunswick High School (SBHS) collected donations for the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick.
“This hospital is one of many who truly care for their patients, and work to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. One way the hospital raises the children’s morale is by providing crayons and coloring books to keep their mind off the unfortunate situation around them,” student Sabrina Ray said in a statement provided by the organization.
“At SBHS, students use the opportunity to be creative any chance they get. From posters and bulletin boards, to pep rallies and sporting events, students continuously spend their time decorating the school. We know the importance of creativity in children’s lives, and wish to provide this to the kids who need it most,” she said.
Through a week of collecting contributions at the high school, as well as encouraging donations at the Joanne Kerkes Art Gallery last month, the volunteers collected a total of 46 coloring books, 50 new boxes of crayons and $900 in donations. The money was used to purchase items off the hospital’s wish list, which were delivered to the hospital by the volunteers themselves, including puzzles, LEGO sets, Microsoft Xbox games and card sets, according to Sabrina.
“Every donation counted in helping the children at this hospital by adding color into their lives and making them smile. Although the fundraiser is over at SBHS, we encourage individuals to continue to donate to the cause, and instantly improve the experience of a child at Bristol-Myers Children’s hospital,” she said.
