SOUTH BRUNSWICK – South Brunswick High School students will end their school year on a serious note.
Principal Peter Varela said officials received information on May 11 regarding a number of senior pranks that students were planning to do at school over the next few weeks. There is an online website that seniors were using to discuss ideas about pranks and organizing plans, he said.

“Some of the pranks would potentially cause not only a disruption to the orderly school environment, but could cause damage to our property, as well as injury to staff and students,” Varela said in a statement released to parents.
On May 12, Varela said he made a schoolwide announcement forewarning students about pranks.
“I stated that any prank or act that disrupts our school environment would be deemed inappropriate and disruptive and consequences would be given, including disciplinary, monetary (if warranted), loss of school privileges (including prom, graduation, to name a couple). There could also be police involvement based on the nature of the prank and the result of the student actions,” he said.
Varela asked parents to address their children and discuss the ramifications of such pranks.
“At this time of the year, seniors should be focused on completing high school with their thoughts directed to college, work and other endeavors,” he said in the statement. “As senior parents, this should be a time that everyone is looking forward to with upcoming proms, senior society, award assemblies and graduation. Unfortunately, there are a number of senior students who would like to see our school day interrupted and it is not fair to the larger school community.”
