The township’s Environmental Commission and Clean Communities program is looking for hale and hearty volunteers to help with park clean-up and beautification projects.

A cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 9 at Thomas Edison Park off Route 27 and Christie Street, site of the historic Edison Memorial Tower.

Organizers say they may need as many as 200 volunteers to help clear fallen trees, prune bushes and shrubs, and help create walking trails that will lead to a pond at the 25-acre Menlo Park property.

They hope to enlist help from of area landscapers, owners of garden centers and nurseries, and township residents who are willing to bring their own chainsaws, wheelbarrows, rakes and shovels.
