MANALAPAN – The Township Committee has renewed the liquor license of a Manalapan bar, but officials placed two conditions on the approval that gives Yuse BT Enterprises the right to operate Locals Bar in the Yorktowne shopping center at Gordons Corner and Pease roads.

Officials took the action on June 14 when they renewed liquor licenses in Manalapan for the period of July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018.

According to a resolution renewing the license for Locals Bar, “the Township Committee finds that the license should be renewed only upon special conditions necessary to ensure the public health, safety and welfare.”

First, Yuse BT Enterprises must “ensure that adequate supervision of the premises is provided so as to minimize the types of activities which have resulted in nuisance calls to the police department during the past license year, including assaults and fights.”

Second, Yuse BT Enterprises must “ensure adequate staffing to ensure that patrons who go outside of the establishment to smoke do not interfere with or disturb other businesses” in the Yorktowne shopping center.

The committee’s resolution was forwarded to the police chief and to the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Locals Bar opened in 2015.

In a June 27 interview, Felix Weinstein, who owns the bar, said he has addressed the first condition cited by the committee, security, by hiring additional security personnel.

Weinstein said there have not been any recent issues outside the bar. He said police officers patrol the area and he said the officers’ presence provides an additional level of security for his customers.

As to the second condition, bar patrons smoking outdoors, Weinstein said there was a situation involving the operator of another business in the shopping center. He said he cannot control where his customers smoke once they leave the bar due to the open nature of the shopping center.

In other action, the committee renewed the following liquor licenses for the period of July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018 without any conditions:

Knob Hill Bowling LLC (Country Lanes); Battleground Country Club LLC; Roma and Richa Inc., A New Jersey Corporation (Gordons Corner Liquors); Apple Food Service of Manalapan LLC (Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar); Wei Hsin Corporation (Hunan Gourmet); K&L Brothers Inc. (Peking Pavilion Restaurant).

Also, Molly Pitcher Post 434 American Legion; Yorktowne Club Inc.; Mainbrook Tavern Inc.; Vive Naini LLC (Vingo Wine & Spirits); JWG Fine Wines & Spirits Inc.; Bonefish Grill LLC; and Knob Hill Golf Course Inc.
