Leonard M. Weinstock

Leonard M. Weinstock (of Durham, NH, previously of Santa Fe, NM and Belle Mead, NJ) passed away at home on June 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. 
He was born on January 30, 1927 to Joseph and Hilda (Bohn) Weinstock in Passaic, New Jersey.  He was a graduate of Passaic High School.  From there he joined the Army Air Corps and served in Japan in the Air Sea Rescue Squadron in Hokkaido.  Upon his return, he attended Rutgers University and subsequently received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Indiana University in 1957.  He spent 33 years at Merck & Co. and authored over 100 papers and patents.       
He was an avid jazz fan, producing numerous radio shows and teaching classes.  He was also a talented photographer.  His works were selected for many awards and gallery shows.  He is remembered as a kind-hearted, intelligent person with a hilarious sense of humor.       
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Orange), his son John and his wife Hiromi (of Kobe, Japan), his daughter Amy Murphy and her husband Dan and two adored grandchildren, Kelsey and Nate (of Bedford, NH). He was pre-deceased by his sister, Adele (Share) of Clifton, New Jersey.  A private celebration of remembrance will be held at a later date.
