The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, 310 Mount’s Corner Drive, Freehold Township, will present “So How Does a Musical Become a Musical?” by Larry Lowenstein at 1 p.m. Sept. 10. Tickets are $8 for museum members and $10 for non-members.
After 30 years as a theater professor at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, where he directed more than 100 shows, Lowenstein had done every show on his wish list, according to a press release.
After he retired, he decided to create his own original musical, “The Next Big Thing.” In his presentation, Lowenstein will talk about what it takes to develop and put together a musical, revealing the process, pitfalls, and triumphs, according to the press release.

On Oct. 22, the museum will present a two-part program with David Brahinsky.
At 1 p.m., Brahinsky will speak about Martin Buber and the Zionist movement.
At 2:30 p.m., Brahinsky and the Roosevelt String Band will present “Songs of Zion” featuring Brahinsky on guitar and vocals, Guy DeRosa on harmonica, Noemi Bolton on banjo, guitar and vocals, and Phil McAuliffe on bass.
The concert will include Hebrew and Yiddish music and songs related to the Zionist enterprise, plus selected songs by Bob Dylan that illuminate his connection to Judaism, according to the press release.
Brahinsky is a professor of philosophy and comparative religion at Bucks County Community College, Newtown, Pa., and the founder of the Roosevelt String Band.
