Aberdeen will be the host to a day of events

ABERDEEN Featuring free food to guest appearances from NFL players, Mayor Fred Tagliarini and the Township Council announced that “Aberdeen Day” will take place on Sept. 23.

The township’s annual town-wide celebration will feature events at Matawan Regional High School and additional locations around town, according to a prepared statement from the township.

This year, for the first time, Aberdeen Day will feature the township of Aberdeen Carnival taking place on Sept. 22-24, at Guisti Field, located on Archie Street, Cliffwood, according to a prepared statement.

Aberdeen Day will start at 8 a.m., with the annual Family Fishing Contest at Veterans Memorial Park Beach, Fisherman’s Parking Lot, in Cliffwood Beach.

A 5k Run/Walk to raise funds to build a playground for all children, but specifically those five and under as well as children with disabilities, will start at 8:45 a.m., on Sept. 23, by Cambridge Park, located at Lloyd Road and Cambridge Drive.

Registration for the run/walk is at 7 a.m., at the Aberdeen-Matawan train station, located at 43 Atlantic Ave, Matawan. The race starts at 8:45 a.m., according to a prepared statement.

The 12-4 p.m. celebration at Matawan Regional High School will remain the primary attraction, hosting longtime favorites including: activities for children, musical and dance performances by the Providence Baptist Church Choir, Junction 13, Painted Young and A Touch of Dance along with a classic car show, crafts, food, vendor booths, and informational displays by local non-profit organizations, according to a prepared statement from the township.

An appearance by Jeremy Kerley of the New York Jets will take place at 1-2:30 p.m. and Leonard Marshall of the New York Giants will also make an appearance at 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the Sigismondi Cliffwood Beach Community Center located at 651 Prospect Ave. in Cliffwood Beach. A performance by Emotion in Motion dancers will take place at 3:30 p.m., according to a prepared statement. 

Free shuttle service will once again be offered between venues and the overflow parking lot at the Aberdeen-Matawan train station.

Followed by the run/walk, the 15th annual Yard Sale, Bake Sale and Snack Shack BBQ hosted by Cross of Glory Lutheran Church will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., located at 95 Cambridge Drive, according to a prepared statement.

Special business-sponsored events, including entertainment, free food tastings, and sidewalk sales will take place at two shopping centers on Route 34. At the Stop and Shop center, DeMarco’s Catering and Gourmet Deli will present free food and entertainment, while at Aberdeen Town Square, Livoti’s will present free food and games. Special promotions will be offered by various other merchants, according to a prepared statement.
