MIDDLETOWN During the next several months, New Jersey American Water will install approximately $1.2 million in new water mains throughout Middletown.
The roughly 7,070 feet of new pipe replaces water mains that were installed as far back as the 1940s. The aging water lines are going to be replaced with ductile iron pipes, according to a prepared statement from New Jersey American Water.
These improvements are part of the water utility’s multimillion-dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state, according to a prepared statement.
Over the next three months, the water utility’s contractor, J.F. Kiely Construction Company, will work along Georgia Avenue, from Crawford Place to Wood Avenue and Wood Avenue, from Crawford Place to Vermont Avenue, according to a prepared statement.
For the next three months the water utility’s contractor, Montana Construction, Inc. will work along the following streets: Avenue A, from Plymouth Avenue to Suffolk Avenue; Avenue B, from Plymouth Avenue to Suffolk Avenue; Avenue D, from Plymouth Avenue to end of roadway; Carter Avenue, from Main Street to Wilson Avenue; Gordon Court, from Main Street to end of roadway; Handyboy Court, from Hamiltonian Drive to end of roadway; Highboy Court, from Hamiltonian Drive to end of roadway; Plymouth Avenue, from Main Street to Avenue D; Walada Avenue, from Main Street to end of roadway; Orphan Boy Court, from Hamiltonian Drive to end of roadway, according to a prepared statement.
“Construction for all projects is expected to be completed by the end of December and final street restoration will take place in the spring 2018,” Senior Project Engineer Patrick Westhoven said. “These substantial updates will continue to improve water service reliability and increase water flows for households and fire protection throughout Middletown.”
Westhoven also reminded drivers and pedestrians to take caution while traveling in the vicinity of work sites, especially during construction hours, according to a prepared statement.
