SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A threat against South Brunswick High School following the attack in Las Vegas has been resolved.

Principal Peter Varela said a perceived threat came to his attention on Oct. 4 that the night before, the South Brunswick Police Department received information that one of the students at the high school, while on social media, made comments referencing the shootings in Las Vegas and concerning remarks about South Brunswick High School.

“The police immediately went to the home last night and launched an investigation. After a thorough investigation, the perceived threat was deemed not credible,” Varela wrote in a letter to parents on Oct. 4.

The school administration met with the student and parent on Oct. 4, according to Varela. As a result of administrative findings, the student was removed from school in accordance with the Code of Conduct. Further actions are pending.

“It remains our highest priority to provide the safest possible learning environment for our students and staff. Working in partnership with the South Brunswick Township Police Department, we will continue to be vigilant on behalf of our students and staff. We are deeply appreciative to the person who came forward with the information and hope that this type of cooperation will always continue,” Varela wrote in the letter.
