New information on suspects, vehicle released in shooting of gas attendant

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Police have released additional information about a shooting that seriously injured a gas station attendant.

At 4:23 a.m. Oct. 15, police responded to the BP Gas Station at 3612 Route 27 near Alston Road for a reported shooting during a botched robbery, police said. Officers found a 60-year-old male gas station attendant shot several times, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

Police believe the suspect vehicle is an older model light brown/tan SUV. The vehicle came down Route 27 south, from the direction of New Road, and pulled into the gas station. There were at least two suspects in the vehicle. The shooter exited the vehicle and is described as a black male who had his face partially covered, according to information provided by the police department.

The male was taken by Kendall Park First Aid Squad and paramedics to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He had undergone surgery and was in guarded condition, as of press time.

“These types of crimes are extremely rare in our community. We are following all leads and working with our county and state law enforcement partners to capture these suspects,” Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said in the statement.
