FREEHOLD – The Borough Council has authorized a change order increase for the purchase of cold water meters that are intended to assist Freehold Borough in measuring water consumption.

On Dec. 4, the council passed a resolution authorizing a $53,606 change order in the contract that was awarded to HD Water Supply Waterworks, Edison, for the acquisition of automated cold water meters. The change order increases the firm’s initial $976,710 contract to $1 million.

According to the resolution, the council sought to acquire automated cold water meters after determining that cold water meters would enhance the accuracy in the measurement of actual water consumption.

The change order was authorized when, during the installation of the water meters, it was determined that more of the larger water meters were needed for business and industrial locations, according to the resolution.

Sufficient funds are available in the water and sewer capital account to cover the cost of the change order, according to the resolution.

In other business, council members passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of gasoline and diesel fuel in accordance with a state contract.

Through the resolution, Freehold Borough is authorized to make use of the state’s contract with Rachles/Michelle’s Oil Co. Inc. of Clifton for the purchase of gasoline and diesel fuel.

The purchase of goods and services by local contracting units is authorized by the New Jersey Local Public Contracts Law and borough officials determined that the use of the state’s contract is consistent with the law, according to the resolution.

According to the resolution, Freehold Borough needs to purchase gasoline and diesel fuel to operate its vehicles and equipment.

Council President George Schnurr and council members Sharon Shutzer, Michael DiBenedetto, Kevin Kane, Jaye Sims and Ron Griffiths voted in favor of the actions that were taken at the meeting.
