Dog sustains injuries during space heater fire in Monroe

MONROE – A dog sustained injuries during a fire on Baker Street.

The Monroe Township Fire Department extinguished a fire that was contained to the garage of 17 Baker St. around 12:39 a.m. on Feb. 3, according to information provided by the Monroe Township Police Department.

The residents were able to evacuate the home safely, except for the family dog that was in the garage at the time the fire, and suffered severe burns, police said. The dog was transported to North Star Veterinary Emergency Trauma and Specialty Center for treatment.

Monroe Township Fire Inspector Ernest Zih advised the fire, which was ruled accidental, was started by a space heater, police said.
