Cappiello is a resident of Englishtown and will represent the borough on the board. She previously served on the board from 1998 to 2009.

Cappiello was the only resident of Englishtown who applied to fill the seat that became available when Elizabeth Canario, who joined the board in 2009 and was re-elected several times, resigned in December because she relocated.

“I am happy to volunteer again to serve my community of Englishtown and the Freehold Regional High School District,” Cappiello said. “I am proud of my past service and accomplishments on the board for those 11 years.

“With the resignation of my predecessor, this unexpected opportunity presented itself. Representation for the residents of my community is important, and I find myself with the time to dedicate to this endeavor. I look forward to serving all of the students in the district,” she said.

Cappiello has been a resident of Englishtown for 25 years. She is a registered nurse and has spent the past 30 years working in the Emergency Department at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.

Her appointment will be for 2018. Cappiello or any other qualified resident of Englishtown may run in the November election to serve the final year of Canario’s term.

The board oversees the operation of six high schools. The nine-member panel has two representatives from Howell and one each from the seven other municipalities that make up the district.

The regional district operates high schools in Colts Neck, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro. Students from those six towns, plus Englishtown and Farmingdale, are enrolled in the district.
